Textile dyes using naturally occurring bacteria

The startup Vienna Textile Lab, Vienna/Austria, combines biotech and chemistry to produce dyes from naturally occurring and non-hazardous bacteria.

They plan to provide a sustainable, wholesome and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional synthetic colors.
Founded in 2017, Vienna Textile Lab’s business model is divided into 4 stages:
1.    Within the 1st year – co-creation of dyed pieces,
2.    Within 3 years – production of dyed yarns, fibers and textiles,
3.    Within 10 years – production of pigment,
4.    Within 20 years – Licensing the IP.
The startup won the Audience Award of the renowned Climate Launchpad in 2017 and is member of the TCBL Network, a European funded project of individuals, associations and companies who are working together to create a more sustainable European textile and clothing sector.
The startup was presented at the 1st Startup-Days of the 58th Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress (Dornbirn GFC) in Dornbirn/Austria from September 11-12, 2019.
