Needled carpet made of renewable raw material

A sustainable needlefelt floor covering can be obtained from the combination of the renewable raw material castor oil and recycled fibers. The manufacturer of needlefelt floor coverings Findeisen GmbH, Ettlingen/Germany, is introducing the Finett Dimension collection of sustainable carpet tiles made from renewable raw materials.
A polyamide obtained from castor oil is used for the wear layer. It hardly absorbs any moisture and thereby ensures the high dimensional stability of the modular needled carpet. Therefore, the tiles and planks can do without any heavy-duty coating and are only slightly fixed to the floor enabling individual modules to be exchanged quickly and easily. With a weight of 1,600 g/cm², the modular elements of Finett Dimension are barely half as heavy as comparable textile tiles with heavy-duty coating.
Apart from its functional advantages such as enabling renovation during on-going operations, this installation method has further ecological advantages. Slightly fixing Finett Dimension to the floor requires only a fraction of the glue quantity needed for firmly gluing traditional needled carpets. Moreover, the tackifier stays on the floor when tiles and planks are exchanged, which facilitates the disposal or recycling of the modules.
The raw materials used in Finett Dimension thus meet the Cradle-to-Cradle material health requirements.
